Located in the central North Shore of Auckland, Mairangi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club (SLSC) has been patrolling North Shore beaches since the early 1930's.

Mairangi Vice is the club's specialist surf boat patrol.

For those not familiar with surf boats (Go Fast boats), feel free to view the Photo Gallery for pictures of competition and training.

23ft long and made of fibreglass, surf boats are manned by five lifeguards - 4 rowers and a sweep. While used in surf rescues since the 1950's, their use in rescue situations today has been superceded by the faster inflatable rescue boats commonly known as IRB's. However, they remain an important component of surf competition due to spectator support and team participation.
